Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)

AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

AVID teaches skills and behaviors for academic success, provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships, creates a positive peer group for students, develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination.  This is achieved by six important elements of education: students, curriculum, faculty, tutors, parents, and community.

The AVID Curriculum:

It is a proven college readiness system developed by middle and high school teachers in partnership with college professors.  It is driven by writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading (WICR) and is supported by state and national standards.  AVID Curriculum is used in the AVID Elective classes and in content area classes.
